Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has said that he no longer regards President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Patience as Nigeria’s First Lady.
Professor Soyinka stated this due to recent comments made by Mrs Jonathan which were seen as an attempt to incite electoral violence.
“What she said was totally unacceptable. I no longer regard her as the First Lady of Nigeria,” the renowned playwright said during an interview with German news platform, Deutsche Welle.
Soyinka had earlier criticized the First lady and other Nigerian politicians for the “crude and vulgar language” being used in campaigns.
Mrs Jonathan has come under fire for urging her supporters to stone members of opposition party, All Progressives Congress(APC).
The APC has petitioned the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the comments and the ICC has promised to investigate the issue.
